Philadelphia Center for the Book's First Salon

Philadelphia Center for the Book held its first Salon for members on Saturday, November 7th. It was held from 2-4:30 pm in the Community Room of Big Blue Marble Bookstore in West Mt. Airy and was hosted by Donna Globus, Karen Lightner and Susan Viguers. Five members attended. After introductions there was information sharing and conversation, including some about the Mt. Airy Artists’ Cooperative that is starting up in the neighborhood. We looked at books (both completed work and works in progress) that five of us had brought. The conversation was open and supportive and it was a great afternoon of sharing!

One participant wrote “the best part was meeting all of you and seeing your work in such a cozy place... The energy and camaraderie were terrific!”

We’re hoping that other members will sponsor salons in their studios or homes. If you’re interested contact membership@philadelphiacenterforthebook.org.

They can be rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged in, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned. Hidden City Philadelphia Month

June is Hidden City Philadelphia month. Don't miss it!

PCB member Jude Robison took the Hidden City Philadelphia bus tour this week and was inducted into several hidden and not so hidden treasures. These included lovely libraries and disintegrating archives, museums, crypts, and more. There are art installations and performances, most of which are free, at the sites. Visit www.hiddencityphila.org for more information.
Here are some snapshots.

Welcome!

Philadelphia Center for the Book has grown considerably in the past year. We have added members, established Committees, and sponsored many exhibits and programs. And now, we have a completely new website and blog! Please visit and explore often.

Be sure to email us your comments at book@philadelphiacenterforthebook.org--we’d love to hear from you!

Be a part of the PCB blog
Please send us event and exhibition notifications, as well as calls for entry. We also encourage our members to volunteer to write a guest blog entry. Suggested topics include reviews of book arts-related events you attended, artist interviews, book reviews, a description of a person, place, or technique of interest to the book arts field, or some way that PCB has affected your life. While you may include pictures of your work, you may not attempt to sell your work or list prices on the blog. You may direct interested readers to see more of your work on your own website.

Requirements for the PCB blog
Blog entries can be up to 1000 words. Images can be submitted using jpg format. Please include a photo credit if applicable. If you’d like to include a video, please contact the blog editor. The weekly deadline for submissions is Saturday at 6:00 pm, and a new entry will be posted each Sunday.
