Art of the Book Calgary 2013

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) is pleased to present Art of the Book 2013. This sixth juried travelling exhibition of members' work marks CBBAG's 30th anniversary.
We've had great response to our "Intention to Participate" in Art of the Book 2013 thus far and have extended the deadline to October 1, 2012. We're excited to announce that a new grand prize of $1000 will be awarded in addition to the seven previously announced category prizes.

CBBAG held its first Art of the Book exhibition in 1988, and every five years since. The exhibition travels across the country for two years post-opening and it is expected that the originality and artistic merit of these pieces will provide standards and inspiration for the Canadian book arts community.
The categories for the exhibition include: fine binding, calligraphy, fine printing, paper making, paper decorating, box making, and artists' books.

For the first time the exhibit will open outside of Toronto on July 13, 2013, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Calgary. In celebration of CBBAG's 30th Anniversary the CBBAG Calgary Chapter will also be hosting a conference in conjunction with the exhibition opening with keynote speaker Sün Evrard and workshops in printmaking, bookbinding, printing, and design with other prominent instructors.

A full colour printed catalogue will be produced and will depict selected works, as well as descriptions of work and biographical statements by each artist. CBBAG may use images of all accepted works for promotional purposes related to CBBAG and the exhibition. All works must be available to travel through 2016.

Partial funding for Art of the Book 2013 exhibition and conference is provided by The Calgary Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts through the Jean A. Chalmers fund for craft.

The Print Center's 87th Annual International Competition of Photographers & Printmakers

Juror: Irene Hofmann, Phillips Director & Chief Curator, SITE Santa Fe  Since 2010 Hofmann has been the Phillips Director and Chief Curator of SITE Santa Fe, NM, a leading international venue for artistic experimentation and curatorial innovation. Prior to that she was the Executive Director of the Contemporary Museum, Baltimore, MD, from 2005 to 2010. **New Guidelines** Instead of alternating each year, all forms of art, with photographyand/or printmaking as critical components of the work, may be submitted. Artists whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices are especially encouraged to enter.

Awards + Prizes

Three solo exhibitions at The Print Center to be held June-July 2013, Online exhibition, Philadelphia Museum of Art Purchase Award, Two-year contract from The Print Center Gallery Store, and up to $3,000 in purchase, cash and material prizes.

About the Competition

The Print Center's Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting local, national and international artists who utilize photography and printmaking in intriguing ways, both in content and process. Artists who use printmaking and/or photography as critical components of their work, or whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices, are encouraged to enter.
